Other Art Apps
While App2 Art recommends Top Art Apps there are many other art apps you might want to think about using to help develop and enhance your imagery.
Paper by Fifty Three - an elegant art notebook
If you want a facsimile for a sketchbook and a range of simple art implements to go with it this is a an attractive app to use. However, the app is primarily being sold as the interface for a relatively expensive interactive pencil - something that does nothing you cannot do with a finger in other art apps. So currently we do not think it is worth making the investment of £50 to acquire this. Our primary usage for Paper is for visualising ideas and presentations rather than as an art medium per se. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/paper-by-fiftythree/id506003812?mt=8
Zen Brush - a great ink drawing/painting application
If you like the clarity of ink based drawing and painting and just want a simple canvas with no layers then this is a really nice app to use. Zen Brush allows you to use fine tapered lines and to considerable thickness so is perfect for pure linear and outline drawing. However, it does not store your drawing in a gallery and has no layers so offers less functionality in most respects than Sketchbook Ink. http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/zen-brush/id382200873?mt=8
Facetune
A new and highly capable photographic app that will allow you to develop a range of interesting effects with your drawings or paintings https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/facetune/id606310581?mt=8
Minimal Folio
This is a great app if you want to organise and display portfolios of your iPad or iPhone art. It is quite memory intensive. If you need to check the impact on your memory go to Settings/General/Usage/Manage Storage. This will show how much memory is being taken up by the app. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/minimal-folio-design-photo/id385429744?mt=8
iDraw - a brilliant graphic and vector drawing app
If you are interested in technical drawing then iDraw is a brilliant vector based application. App2Art has good familiarity with this application so can provide advice on how to use it in our Workshops. http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/idraw/id363317633?mt=8
Brushes 3 - David Hockney's historic app of choice
We have recently removed the Brushes 3 app from our Top Art Apps pending resolution of IOS 8.0 related problems which caused it to stop working. The link above is to a stop gap application introduced to restore some of the primary functionality. On an historical note Brushes was the first truly capable art application and David Hockney was among its early adopters. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/brushes-redux/id932089074?mt=8
Pixelmator
A very capable new image enhancement app based on the widely praised mainframe software version. A great way of finishing images. However, so capable from a primary art perspective you may wish to experiment with it as your painting or drawing app instead. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/pixelmator/id924695435?mt=8
Percolator - an interesting effects app that can transform images
A great app for enhancing images particularly impressionistic or abstract ones. It generates a hugely customisable bubbly or circular infill. We currently include a number of modified images in our Galleries. Well worth experimenting with. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/percolator/id385454903?mt=8
Fragment - great for abstract image work
If you want to experiment with abstract manipulation of image this is an interesting function https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/fragment/id767104707?mt=8
Tangled FX
Another clever effects app that can jazz up your drawings and paintings https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/tangled-fx/id588126769?mt=8
